There was something special about John the Baptist. He was on a mission to get the word out about Jesus, so that everyone may believe because of his testimony. John was not afraid to speak up to the crowds about Jesus. He is a great example of remaining humble. He was not focused on his status even though he was well known. God had to make John known to make Jesus known. He picked a man who cared about making Jesus recognized rather than making it about himself being recognized.
In a crowd full of people John said, “Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am.” (John 1:15) Jewish leaders and temple assistance were sent to ask John who he was. John let them know he was not the Messiah. He said: I am a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Clear the way for Lords coming.” They wanted to know who John was, but John wanted to prepare them to recognize Jesus. John said, “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
When walking with Christ and proclaiming His word let’s not forget that it’s about shining HIS light and making Him known. No matter what your status is, God places you where you need to be used for HIS glory.
