back to Faith Talk Fridays

There are lists of things that matter to us in this life, such as; our jobs, family, friends, getting bills paid or even catching up with our favorite TV show. The list could go on. I’ve been asking myself the question, what matters most to you Chelsea? I know that what ultimately matters before anything else in this life is to know Jesus. The others things that matter in my life are: parenting, my marriage, church, career path and relationships with others. In order to be guided in those roles, I have to put Jesus before me. In John 14:6 Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” I’ll tell you right now, if my husband and I didn’t put Jesus in our marriage I don’t know where we would be today. His way and truth is good. It makes us not want to give up, reflect on ourselves and be better in areas that need it. Jeff and I are nowhere near perfect and we will never be perfect, but because of Jesus we are better and being perfected in Him. Besides marriage talk, loving others in general can be hard stuff too. In everyday life we face challenging people and situations. Jesus tells us that the most important commandment is to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself. No other commandment is greater than these. Even with Jesus in the equation we still face struggles to get this love thing right. Jesus knows we have moments of weakness, so he’s here to help. Without putting Him first the struggle is even more real! Our loving father helps us sort it out and toss our emotions to the back seat. You may want to cuss someone out and tell them like it is. I’ll admit that’s what I’d sometimes want to do if I didn’t have Jesus, but because I’ve experienced His goodness and want to listen to the Holy Spirit I won’t take that route. Not choosing to be like that isn’t out force, God gives us a free will. It won’t do it because I’ve experiencing the kindness, goodness, grace and mercy he’s displayed towards me. That is what causes me to genuinely want to show love towards others. When you allow the Holy Spirit to flow in your life it awakes that Inside you. Hebrews 12:14-15 tells us, “Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God.” That is some powerful stuff. In parenting, marriage, your work place, community, etc. look after people and make effort to show Gods love by putting Him before you. Without God we end up in a pattern of feeling dry, easily offended, dissatisfied, tired and incomplete. So many things matter in this life and you are made with a purpose intertwined with them. I hope to see you live to your life to the fullest, by putting the one who matters most first; Jesus Christ.
